England - North West representative

We are proud to announce Steve Lowe, 5th Dan in Shotokan, as the regional Kissaki-Kai representative for the North West of England!

Sensei Lowe originally started training sport Shotokan in 1980 but changed to more traditional JKA karate in 1986. He further studied Goju Ryu and Aikido and in 2001/02 became the first instructor/club in England to be affiliated to and teach JKS karate under sensei's Asai Kagawa and Scott Langley. However, it was not long after this that he ‘became disillusioned with the way our karate was going’ and felt the need for his karate to go back to be a fighting and self-protection system.
During this period of our journey we came across sensei Don and sensei Vince and it was as though we had come home. It was from this training with Kissaki Kai that my karate has enabled me to launch a self protection system that I now teach to various Home Office groups.’
Sensei Steve Lowe is now also the North West CRI (Crime Reducing Initiative) self protection and awareness instructor.

The Tai-No-Sen dojo is located in Wigan at the Westfield Community School, Montrose Ave, with the training times of Tuesdays & Thursdays 6.45pm to 9pm.

The perfect read:

TEARTIME, Vince Morris' first novel, is an explosive, nail-biting journey of violence and betrayal, which charts the twists and convolutions of fate that force an IRA master-bomber and a British secret agent into a violent confrontation with each other... and the fates that made them. The innocent die. Human life is simply expendable. Who says? British Intelligence forces and the IRA – “The ends justify the means.“

IN THE CAGE FOR KISSAKI-KAI

Saturday Aug 15th 2009, Paul Felder (right) won his first MMA fight. Paul, age 25, is now not only at home on the stage, but also in the cage. Working as a professional actor since his graduation from the University of the Arts in 2008 he also has a long history in traditional martial arts including Korean Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Brazilian Ju Jutsu and Muay Thai. He started his training for this fight at the Kissaki-Kai Martial Arts School

in Marlton just over a year ago.

Originally, he had been attracted to Kissaki-Kai because of the school’s unique approach to realistic training, always emphasizing street-effective self-defense. In mid 2008 the Kissaki honbu dojo in New Jersey branched out into MMA under one of its teachers, Matt Knorr. This culminated in the school’s debut fighter, Jeff Calcagno, entering the MMA ring back in October 08. Since then a hard core of MMA enthusiasts meet regularly every Wednesday night for sweaty work-outs which include kicking and punching as well as ground fighting overseen by Dan Schreiber and Pinelands Ju Jutsu’s instructor Bill Troy.

Then came Paul’s big night: The event was organized by New Breed Fighters at the Resorts Casino in Atlantic City. Paul’s was the 9th fight on the card, by which time the audience had warmed up and the excitement rose to a new level as a riveting match ensued.  Both fighters gave their best and demonstrated their excellent skills. After trading some punches and some

close grappling on the ground, Paul received a low kick and a spine crunching throw onto the floor, but showed his indomitable spirit by retaliating with crippling thigh kicks soon after.

The last round ended with Paul on top of his opponent, sinking knee strikes deep into the other fighter’s ribs. After three, three minute rounds, the most exciting fight of the night ended and Paul Felder was deservedly declared the winner of the bout.

Asked why he had entered the cage, Paul declared: “I have always wanted to test my traditional back ground against the new style of MMA and prove that ‘traditional roots’ are the best base for any fighter.“

Not only as a fighter, but also as an actor, Paul Felder is a man you should watch!

If you would like to join the Kissaki-Kai Fight Team, or just train MMA with us, come along on a Wednesday night to

55 East Rt 70 in Marlton

(856 985 1311)!
